Από το 2005 η Benelli ανήκει στο Qianjiang group, τον μεγαλύτερο όμιλο εταιριών κατασκευής μοτοσικλετών της Κίνας, σε μέγεθος και αριθμό παραγωγής μοτοσικλετών. 14.000 άνθρωποι παράγουν περισσότερες από 1.200.000 μοτοσικλέτες ετησίως! Όλα αυτά στο υπερσύγχρονο εργοστάσιο του Wenling, το οποίο βρίσκεται γύρω στα 500km από την πόλη Σανγκάη. Η ιστορία μας

1911 ~ 1934

Έξι αδέλφια, μια ιστορία. Ήταν την άνοιξη του 1911 όταν η Teresa Benelli, χήρα, επένδυσε το σύνολο του κεφαλαίου της οικογένειάς της για να δημιουργήσει ένα εργαστήριο και να εξασφαλίσει μια σταθερή δουλειά για έξι γιους της, Giuseppe, Giovanni, Filippo, Francesco, Domenico και Antonio "Tonino" Benelli.

Στην αρχή ήταν μόνο ένα συνεργείο, στο οποίο κατασκευαζόντουσαν και μερικά ανταλλακτικά για αυτοκίνητα και μοτοσικλέτες. Αλλά τα έξι αδέλφια Benelli είχαν μια πολύ μεγαλύτερη φιλοδοξία: την κατασκευή μοτοσικλετών. Οκτώ χρόνια αργότερα, το 1919, η πρώτη μηχανή γεννήθηκε, ένα δίχρονος κινητήρας 75cc τοποθετημένος σε ένα σασί, κατασκευή η οποία όμως δεν παρήγαγε ικανοποιητικά αποτελέσματα.

Τον Δεκέμβριο του 1921 εμφανίστηκε η πρώτη πραγματική μοτοσικλέτα Benelli: η "Velomotore", ένας δίχρονος κινητήρας 98cc σε ένα ελαφρύ σασί, σε δύο μοντέλα, Touring και Sport (125cc), που ακολουθήθηκε το 1923 από μια έκδοση 147 cc, με την οποία ο Tonino Benelli βίωσε πολλές νίκες στην πορεία της αγωνιστικής του καριέρας, κάτι που έκανε την εταιρεία του Πέζαρο γνωστή σε όλη την Ευρώπη.

Το 1926 ο Giuseppe Benelli σχεδίασε μια νέα μοτοσικλέτα, 175cc 4-χρονη, με καδένα εκκεντροφόρου και σύστημα μετάδοσης τεσσάρων ταχυτήτων και επιδόσεις ίσες ή ανώτερες από τις μοτοσικλέτες μεγαλύτερου κυβισμού, η οποία οδήγησε σε αμέτρητες επιτυχίες τον Tonino Benelli , πρωταθλητή Ιταλίας το 1927, 1928, 1930 και το 1931. Η αύξηση της παραγωγής και η επιτυχία των πωλήσεων (το 175cc παρήχθη σε διαφορετικά μοντέλα μέχρι το 1934, όταν παρουσιάστηκε μία 500cc και μια 250cc 4-χρονη μοτοσικλέτα) οδήγησε στη επέκταση του εργοστασίου. Το 1932 οι αδελφοί Benelli αγόρασαν τις εγκαταστάσεις του πριονιστηρίου Molaroni στη ‘viale Principe Amedeo’, την πλέον ονομαζόμενη ‘viale Mameli’.

Δύο χρόνια αργότερα, το 1934 η Benelli παρουσίασε δύο νέες αγωνιστικές μοτοσικλέτες: μία 250 διπλού εκκεντροφόρου και μία 500. Η πρώτη νίκη στο Isle of Man ήρθε το 1939. Το 1940 η Benelli λάνσαρε μια 500cc με πλευρικές βαλβίδες και μια φανταστική αγωνιστική μοτοσικλέτα (μια 4-κύλινδρη με διπλή καδένα εκκεντροφόρου και ενισχυτή που ποτέ δεν θα χρησιμοποιούνται στην πίστα), αλλά το ξέσπασμα του πολέμου ανάγκασε την εταιρεία να παράγει μόνο στρατιωτικές μοτοσικλέτες.

1940 ~ 1950

Η Benelli ήταν στο απόγειο της επιτυχίας (800 εργαζόμενοι εργάστηκαν στο εργοστάσιο), αλλά κατά τον Δεύτερο Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο οι Ναζί κατέστρεψαν το εργοστάσιο.

Παρόλα αυτά οι αδελφοί Benelli δεν εγκατέλειψαν τα επιχειρηματικά τους σχέδια και αφού ανέκτησαν τα μηχανήματα και τον εξοπλισμό, άρχισαν να μετατρέπουν περίπου 1000 στρατιωτικές μοτοσικλέτες - κυρίως αγγλικής προέλευσης – οι οποίες ήταν εγκαταλελειμμένες από τους συμμάχους στα πεδία μαχών, σε μοτοσικλέτες για χρήση από πολίτες. Το 1947 ήταν η χρονιά που επαναλήφθηκαν οι αγωνιστικές δραστηριότητες.

Το 1948 ήταν έτος-ορόσημο για την Benelli: η εταιρεία προσέλαβε τον δρομέα Dario Ambrosini και στις 14 Οκτωβρίου τα αδέλφια Benelli ανακοίνωσαν την απόφαση να συνεχίσουν την παραγωγή μοτοσικλετών. Η αθλητική επιτυχία της νέας Benelli κορυφώθηκε το 1950 με τη νίκη του Ambrosini στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα στην κατηγορία των 250cc.

1950 ~ 1980

Στο τέλος του '40 ο Giuseppe Benelli, λόγω διαφωνιών με τα αδέλφια του, αποχώρησε από την εταιρεία. Ήταν η αρχή της Motobi, με τον κλασικό 2-χρονο και 4-χρονο κινητήρα σε σχήμα αυγού, μικρού και μεσαίου κυβισμού. Μια νέα επιτυχία για τις πωλήσεις και για το αγωνιστικό κομμάτι: πάνω από 1000 νίκες σε αγώνες στη δεκαετία του ‘50 και του '60.

Η κατασκευαστική δραστηριότητα της Benelli συνεχίστηκε το 1951 με την παρουσίαση του «Leoncino», του οποίου η μεγάλη εμπορική επιτυχία ήταν στο αποκορύφωμά της όταν η Benelli κέρδισε το πρώτο «Motogiro d'Italia» το 1953 με τον αγωνιζόμενο Tartarini.

Το 1961 η Benelli γιόρτασε τα 50 χρόνια λειτουργίας της και το επόμενο έτος, για την αντιμετώπιση της κρίσης στον κλάδο της μοτοσικλέτας, οι δύο μάρκες Benelli και Motobi συγχωνεύθηκαν σε μία. Πολύ σημαντικές ήταν οι νίκες του αυστραλιανού δρομέα Kelvin Carruthers το 1969 στο Isle of Man και στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα 250cc ως αναβάτη της Benelli.
Ένα ευρύ φάσμα μοντέλων χαρακτήρισε την παραγωγή Benelli-Motobi στη δεκαετία του '60: από σκούτερ μέχρι και το «Tornado», μία maxi μοτοσικλέτα 2-κύλινδρη 650cc, την τελευταία πρωτότυπη δημιουργία της Benelli. Το 1972 η εταιρεία αγοράστηκε από τον Αργεντινό επιχειρηματία Alejandro De Tomaso. Η νέα ιδιοκτησία λάνσαρε εκ νέου και διεύρυνε το φάσμα των προϊόντων, παρουσιάζοντας μοτοσικλέτες διαφόρων κυλίνδρων και μία επιβλητική 6-κύλινδρη 750cc (η πρώτη 6-χρονη μοτοσικλέτα που ήταν διαθέσιμη για αγορά από το ευρύ κοινό) και έχτισε ένα νέο και σύγχρονο εργοστάσιο.

1988 ~ 2015

Ο ιαπωνικός ανταγωνισμός έγινε ολοένα και πιο έντονος και τεχνολογικά προηγμένος. Η κρίση ήταν αναπόφευκτη και διήρκησε για μεγάλο διάστημα. Το 1988 η Benelli ήταν στο πιο κρίσιμο σημείο. Ο μεγιστάνας της βιομηχανίας κ. Giancarlo Selci, ιδιοκτήτης του ομίλου Biesse, έσωσε την ένδοξη εταιρεία από ένα αβέβαιο μέλλον και αγόρασε την Benelli στις 23 Οκτωβρίου 1989. Η εταιρεία στόχευσε στο τμήμα της αγοράς των σκούτερ με τα μοντέλα Devil και Scooty. Φάνηκε ότι μια νέα εποχή είχε αρχίσει, αλλά μετά τις πρώτες στιγμές ευφορίας οι προοπτικές έγιναν και πάλι αβέβαιες.

Το 1995, ο Όμιλος Merloni του Fabriano αγόρασε την πλειοψηφία των μετοχών της ιστορικής εταιρίας. Ο Andrea Merloni, γιος του Vittorio, ήταν ο ηγέτης της νέας εταιρείας και το νέο ξεκίνημα έφτασε με το επιθετικό σκούτερ 491. Νέα φιλόδοξα σχέδια, σκούτερ και ακόμη σπορ μοτοσικλέτες: η Tornado 900cc 3-κύλινδρη, η οποία θα αγωνιστεί επίσης στο πρωτάθλημα Superbike και η 1130cc ΤΝΤ. Αλλά η Benelli έπρεπε σύντομα να αντιμετωπίσει και πάλι μια νέα κρίση.

Τον Δεκέμβριο του 2005 η Benelli έγινε μέλος του ομίλου Q.J. . Νικήτρια του βραβείου ως η καλύτερη εξαγωγική εταιρία μοτοσικλετών της χρονιάς, η Qianjiang είναι μια εταιρεία που βρίσκεται στην Wenling, όπου 14.000 άνθρωποι παράγουν περισσότερα από 1.200.000 οχήματα και δύο εκατομμύρια κινητήρες ετησίως σε ένα υπερσύγχρονο εργοστάσιο μεγάλο όσο μια πόλη.

Οι εγκαταστάσεις είναι περίπου 670.000 τ.μ., εξοπλισμένες με εξελιγμένα εξαρτήματα κατασκευής μηχανημάτων που εισάγονται από τη Γερμανία, την Ιταλία και τις ΗΠΑ .
Η εταιρεία, με κεφάλαιο άνω των 750 εκατομμυρίων US $, είναι εισηγμένη στο κινεζικό χρηματιστήριο από το 1999 και παράγει επίσης quad (γουρούνες), ηλεκτρικά ποδήλατα, χορτοκοπτικές μηχανές, αμαξάκια του γκολφ, γεννήτριες, αντλίες και άλλες συσκευές κηπουρικής. Το 20% της παραγωγής της εξάγεται στο εξωτερικό, με την Αμερική και την Ευρώπη να περιλαμβάνονται στις χώρες εξαγωγής. Η Qianjiang εστιάζεται στην ποιότητα και έχει λάβει τη διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένη πιστοποίηση ISO 9001 από το 1997.

Με το νέο κεφάλαιο και τη συνέργεια μεταξύ Ιταλίας και Κίνας, η Benelli Q.J. εργάζεται αυτή τη στιγμή σε πολλά έργα που αποσκοπούν στην προώθηση της εταιρείας του Πέζαρο στις παγκόσμιες αγορές.
Το 2011 η Benelli γιόρτασε με επιτυχία την πρώτη εκατονταετία της.
